Jean-Charles Moreux<\/strong> was born in 1889, in Ch\u00e2teau de Joncy located in the Sa\u00f4ne-et-Loire region. In 1910, he graduated from Ecole sp\u00e9ciale des travaux publics and went on to carry out his military service. While studying at Ecole nationale des Beaux-arts in Paris, Moreux<\/strong> he became friends with Andr\u00e9 Lur\u00e7at in 1920. His encounter with Andr\u00e9<\/strong> and Paul<\/strong> V\u00e9ra<\/strong> enabled him to redecorate the villa belonging to the two brothers in Saint-Geramin-en-Laye<\/strong>. Commissions from important clients including Jacques Doucet<\/strong>, Charles de Noailles<\/strong> and Robert de Rotschild<\/strong> soon followed.He graduated from Ecole nationale des Beaux-arts in Paris in 1922 and simultaneously attended lectures at Ecole des Chartes and Ecole du Louvre.<\/p>\n

From 1923 he designed his first pieces of furniture, rarely signing them.1926 is a true milestone of his life when he met Bolette Natanson (1892-1936), the daughter of Alexandre<\/strong> Natanson<\/strong>, director of \u2018La Revue Blanche\u2019. They travelled together in Italy where Bolette<\/strong> Natanson<\/strong> soon became his muse. They embarked on a historical and naturalistic exploration of artistic ideas, drawing inspiration from antiquity, the Renaissance and the Baroque, with Palladio<\/strong>, Ledoux<\/strong> and Delorme<\/strong> as architectural references. Together, they re-designed the Ch\u00e2teau de Maulny<\/strong>.
\nMoreux<\/strong>\u00a0joined the UAM<\/strong> in 1930 but kept his distance from architectural circles, prefering to frequent artists and thinkers.
\nHe and Bolette Natanson created the gallery Les Cadres, 174 rue du faubourg Saint-Honor\u00e9. The opening exhibition was entitled \u2018Variations on a naturalistic theme\u2019, the first in a series of themed events: \u2018Bird Cages\u2019, \u2018Plants\u2019, \u2018Butterflies\u2019, \u2018Ice\u2019 and \u2018Variations on an antique theme\u2019 in 1935. The gallery attracted important clients including Bernard Reichenbach, la Princesse de Polignac, Andr\u00e9 Dunoyer de Segonzac and the couturier Rapha\u00ebl.
\nBolette Natanson<\/strong> died in 1936 and this same year Jean-Charles\u00a0Moreux\u00a0<\/strong>became sub-editor of the review \u2018L\u2019Amour de l\u2019Art\u2019.
\nHe designed the Martinique Pavillion at the Exposition universelle<\/strong> of 1937 and the gardens of the UAM Pavillion. One year later, he designed the Jardin des Gobelins.
\nIn 1939 he exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes D\u00e9corateurs. He also married Marthe Jacquelin (1892-1984), a medical doctor. The couple remained in Paris during the occupation. in 1943 he became a member of the editorial committee of \u2018L\u2019Architecture Fran\u00e7aise\u2019, and then he was given the title of head architect of public buildings and monuments.
\nHe became a member of SAD, in 1947, an organization devoted to defend those working in luxury trades.
\nIn 1953, he earned the L\u00e9gion d\u2019honneur for the work he had carried out in the Louvre. And, in 1954, 100 watercolours taken from his sketchbook have been published. The preface was written by his friends Henry Spitzm\u00fcller<\/strong> and Andr\u00e9 Chastel<\/strong>.
\nJean-Charles\u00a0Moreux<\/strong>\u00a0died on the 7th July 1956.<\/p>\n
