Valentine Schlegel was born in 1925 in Se\u0300te, on the French Mediterranean coast, in a family of craftsmen. Her birthplace had a lasting influence beyond childhood. Her first major interests was the sea, boating and fishing. She observed the white sails, picked seashells and would spend hours in her father’s workshop, contemplating tools, learning the basics of ulphostery. At the age of 16, she entered the Beaux-Arts in Montpellier, where she study painting and executed frescoes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Valentine Schlegel is born in 1925 in Se\u0300te, France in a family of craftsman. The city of Se\u0300te marks deeply the childhood of Valentine. She discovers in Se\u0300te the first of her passions, the sea, the navigation and the fishing. She ob- serves the white mainsails, picking seashellsand spend hours in her father workshop, contemplating tools, learning some basics of ulphostery. At the age of 16, she enters in the Beaux-Arts in Montpellier, where she study painted and realised painted fresca.<\/p>\n

She discovers and learns the techniques of the fire during scouting. She is also passionate for everyday objets ; cutlery, pitchers, bowls and so on.
\nIn 1947, she works as a propsman for the theater piece \u2018La trage\u0301die du roi Richard II\u2019 which will be presented at the forst festival d\u2019Avignon with Jean Vilar. During the four following years, she works successively as a stage manager and costumer. During this time, she creates small santons (small fugures in terracotta from the south of france) that she offers to the comedians.<\/p>\n

She arrives in Paris and share a workshop with her friend, met earlier at the Beaux Arts, Fre\u0301de\u0301rique Bourguet (who will after that found the duo Les Argonautes), et focus on a production of utilitarian objets, plates and jugs, inspired by the antics creations of the mediterranean.
\nFrom 1955 , her creations takes shapes more and more abstracts and organics, borrowed to the sea and the earth (bulbs, buds).<\/p>\n

In 1959, she conceives her first architectures and fireplace in plaster, for private appartements. Lights and sensual canvas, thos architectures, build alcove and bench, others of her creations such as vases or sculpture. Her fireplaces punctuates her carriers during around fourty years. She will make nearly a hundred fireplaces, in Paris (in the flat of Jeanne Moreau for example), or in the south of France or even Spain in Ibiza.<\/p>\n

In 1975 she exhibits at La Demeure and conceives for the exhibition important angle shelves in white plaster to present her works. She died in Paris in 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
