Born in 1884 in a family who was a stranger to the world of interior decorators, he chose to study science, before working for his father\u2019s newspaper. His wedding to Pauline Marie Poiret, a dressmaker in the making then, allowed him to meet her siblings, each drawn to artistic pursuits.<\/p>\n

N\u00e9 en 1884 dans une famille \u00e9trang\u00e8re au monde des d\u00e9corateurs-ensembliers, il choisit de faire des \u00e9tudes en sciences, avant de travailler pour le journal paternel. Son mariage avec Pauline Marie Poiret, alors couturi\u00e8re en devenir, le fait entrer en contact avec la fratrie de son \u00e9pouse, au sein de laquelle tous manifestent une certaine sensibilit\u00e9 artistique.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir abandonn\u00e9 son poste de journaliste, il se tourne vers la d\u00e9coration d\u2019int\u00e9rieur, notamment \u00e0 l\u2019occasion de l\u2019emm\u00e9nagement du couple dans leur appartement. Dans ce cadre, le duo se constitue rapidement un stock de marchandise, en achetant meubles, masques africains ou encore fa\u00efences, ce qui les pousse rapidement \u00e0 lancer leur affaire d\u2019antiquit\u00e9s-d\u00e9coration, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 1908. Leur adresse, au 31 rue d\u2019Anjou \u00e0 Paris, dans un h\u00f4tel particulier, facilite leur rencontre avec Louis S\u00fce, qui devient un ami et collaborateur, et se charge de l\u2019am\u00e9nagement du lieu. La client\u00e8le grandissant, la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de restaurer les meubles anciens achet\u00e9s se fait sentir, et met Andr\u00e9 Groult en contact avec la conception de mobilier. <\/p>\n

De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, son \u00e9pouse se lance vers 1910 dans la mode, et pr\u00e9sente ses pi\u00e8ces dans ce m\u00eame lieu. Il se d\u00e9marque par son rejet de l\u2019Art nouveau, et son attachement aux styles du pass\u00e9, ainsi que son usage de mati\u00e8res pr\u00e9cieuses. Pour l\u2019Exposition des arts d\u00e9coratifs de 1925, il con\u00e7oit la \u00ab chambre de Madame \u00bb marqu\u00e9e par l\u2019usage du galuchat, notamment pour un chiffonier aujourd\u2019hui visible au mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs. Ceci lui permet de conforter sa r\u00e9putation, et de travailler sur des chantiers prestigieux, dont le paquebot Normandie.

\nUn an avant sa mort, en 1965, il vend ses derniers meubles \u00e0 Drouot, et doit faire face au peu de succ\u00e8s de ses pi\u00e8ces ; une tendance qui s\u2019est largement invers\u00e9e depuis, puisqu\u2019il est d\u00e9sormais consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un brillant d\u00e9corateur-ensemblier de l\u2019Art d\u00e9co.<\/p>\n
