André Arbus (1903-1969)

Sideboard
Circa 1940

Large solid mahogany and mahogany veneered sideboard.
The rectangular body opens through two panels onto six shelves in two rows.
The front and the sides are veneered in mahogany, and the alternating burr wood gives a real dynamic to the sideboard.
The marble top has two square projections in the corners and is highlighted with a fine brass ribbon.
The sides of the cabinet are framed by tapering columns topped by a piedouche shape.
These detached columns are placed in a slight recess in the corners of the cabinet, above the front legs.
These ornaments, decorated with metal junction elements, are housed in a combination of recesses and projections in the corners.
The flared legs are a continuation of the columns and rest on a retangular base.
