Gilbert Poillerat Archive

Gallery Chastel-Maréchal is in charge of the Gilbert Poillerat archive, entrusted by his son and rights-holder, Didier Poillerat, who passed them on to Aline Chastel. This vast collection of photographs from the 1930s to the 1970s constitutes an invaluable reference on the work of this important 20th-century master ironworker. Poillerat collaborated closely with the most renowned decorators of his time, such as André Arbus, Jacques Adnet or Jean Royère. The papers document the architectural projects to which Poillerat contributed: private and public commissions (including the Louvre and the Élysée Palace), collectors’ interiors as well as religious buildings. The archive records the vast range of productions by the designer. Signs, railings, banisters, furniture, lighting and decorative objects illustrate the early influence of Art Déco and the evolution towards a syncretic style, at once Baroque and Neo-classical, which Poillerat developed throughout his career.

This major archive represents a unique historical ressource for the gallery which sources and offers pieces by Poillerat. As a member of the Syndicat français des Experts Professionnels en œuvres d’art et objets de collection, Aline Chastel is qualified to appraise furniture and decorative elements by the designer.
