André Arbus (1903-1969)

Pair of armchairs
Circa 1942

Pair of armchairs in rechampi wood featuring ornamentation by Henri Parayre.
The flat rectangular backrest is reminiscent of the tradition of the "A la reine" (flat-backed) armchairs.
The seat surround is slightly protruding, and adorned with a recessed baguette echoing the one found on the backrest.
The armrest, complete with padding, connects to the backrest in a curve.
The armrest supports are slightly set back from the seat base. They were designed by Henri Parayre and carved in the shape of mermaids.
The four legs of the armchairs are saber-shaped.
