Aline Hazarian

Architect born in Lebanon, Aline Hazarian is passionated since her childhood by decorative arts and creation in general. Marked by the chaos of the civil war and the constraints of a motion life, she travels between the countries and the cultures. This fact deeply affects her approach of ways of life and interiors. Each new space is an uncommon location to adapt. Her creations have a personal significance, most of the time named after her children or Armenian heroes.

Her works are between functionalism and aestheticism. Her « sculpture-furniture » perfectly set in their environment. This idea of total art, which appeared during the 19th century, reminds at some points the inspired Japanism of Edouard Lièvre. This great culture of the decorative arts allows her to get some shapes from the valuable repertoire of the art deco style.
The work of Aline Hazarian swings between rigorous lines and delicate curves. The bronze, her favorite material, offers her all the options of shapes and volumes. The metal aspect shows a rich texture reminding the appearance of chisel-worked wood, « faux-wood » in « trompe l’oeil » or volcanic soil. The patinas are made with care and can be sometimes highlighted with a subtle touch of gold which gives life to the creations.
The first collection of furniture by Aline Hazarian has been revealed for the first time in New York in 2017. For her first collaboration with the gallery Chastel-Maréchal in 2024, Aline Hazarian creates a corpus of works which echo the refined and erudite style of the gallery founded by Aline Chastel for whom the idea of transmission is essential. Alongside her passion for treasures from the past, Aline Chastel is also committed to promoting the work of contemporary creators in order to perpetuate this idea of “conduit for art” and to “create connections that provoke encounters between objects and collectors”.
