Jean Royère, “Ondulation” pair of lamps

Jean Royère (1902-1981)

"Ondulation" pair of lamps
Circa 1945

The base of these lamps consists of a single undulating wrought iron tube with a black patina, enclosing polished bronze balls, alternating at the top and bottom. A circular plate in the original black-painted metal tops the foot and has a central rod for the lampshade, which is not original. The whole rests on a square black marble base.
This model of lamp is very well referenced in Jean Royère’s archives at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and in period documentation. It can be seen on a coffee table in Jean Royère’s flat on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, in a series of photographs dated 1946.

Height of the foot 30 cm (11 3/4 in) - Diameter 11 cm (4 3/8 in) - Width of the base 17 cm (6 3/4 in)
