Jean Royère, Special commission from 1956
Jean Royère (1902-1988)
Special commission
1956
A unique set, commissioned in 1956 by Mr. M. for the living room of his apartment in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, directly from Jean Royère. Photograph No. 1567 from Album VI, held in the Jean Royère Archives (MAD, Paris), depicts this set. Also featured in this interior were a curved piece of furniture, a living room set, and light fixtures. Part of the collection is featured in the November 1958 issue of Mobilier et Décoration.
The semicircular design of this bookcase, which was a panelled furniture, followed the curve of the wall formed by the projection of the stairwell. The front is punctuated by two doors entirely inlaid with original straw, weathered by time, featuring a star motif. This front opens onto an interior fitted with a height-adjustable shelf and three small shelves on the right-hand door, made of oak and of exquisite craftsmanship. Each door features an original lock and key. The white-painted, molded wooden cabinet, featuring three rows of two open storage compartments on the left side, rests on a slightly recessed plinth.
