Sculpture representing the Wise Man Balthazar in chamotte clay, modeled, scarified and enameled in polychrome - white, black, blue, red and yellow.
He is shown with black skin, in accordance with the story, offering myrrh and carrying a dagger at his waist.
Signed on the base ‘Jean Derval Vallauris’.
Height 123 cm (48 3/8 in)
Provenance :
- Probably created around 1965 for the Antibes cathedral’s nativity scene.
- Private collection, France.
