Line Vautrin, “Miroir aux Alouettes”

Line Vautrin (1913-1997)

"Miroir aux Alouettes"
Circa 1955

Beige talosel structure, eleven larks in talosel inlaid with silver mirrors.
Signed "Line Vautrin" on the back.
Line Vautrin’s iconic model, this mirror "aux Alouettes" is quite rare on the market.
A lark mirror is originally a trap used to capture larks, then became in French an expression describing an illusion.
Line Vautrin, not without humour, chose to illustrate this expression in the literal sense by representing small larks being reflected in a mirror.
